Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would attend an event that would have such a profound effect on my life. I firmly believe now that TEDx does inspire especially if you allow yourself to be inspired. These are just a few of the speakers I wish to be like:
• I wish to be like Manon Ossevoort who drove a tractor to the end of the world and back collecting dreams of people she met along her journey.
• I wish to be like Tjeerd Veenhoven who develop innovative products but at the same time develop innovation solutions to threats facing our planet. This wonderful man taught me the importance of being centred in life and doing what you love because “when you do what you love, you will love what you do” – Bas van Haren (one of the speakers at the TEDx event).
• I wish to be like Tina Bridgman who despite the loss of her left hand persevered and continued playing the guitar. Whilst talking to Tina I found myself in tears not only because of what she went through but also because of the strength and courage she as an individual had after the accident. I am truly blessed to have met you whilst on my journey in Groningen.
• I wish to be like Joseph Oubelkas who became the “hero” to hundreds of inmates while serving out a jail sentence in Uganda for something he did not commit. This man persevered despite everything he went through and managed to stay open minded to the possibilities of achieving something even though he was locked up in prison.
Most importantly, I wish to be myself, Gordon Wisdom White. The person who managed to get to where he is today despite all the obstacles he faced while growing up.
I now believe that TEDx is not just a single person or organisation trying to change a world that desperately needs to change but a collective group of people wanting to change the world by sharing their ideas and stories with the world. My goal for the next two years is to develop an idea I had while at the TEDx event in Groningen and actually present the progress and the idea itself at a TEDx event in Cape Town, South Africa. One thing I now know for sure is that dreams and goals really do come true and when you believe in something, you will eventually attract that something into your life.
Something that I would like each and every individual to do is to share your story with the world. Tell someone you know or don’t know something about yourself even if you feel the story might not be of any value to that person.
Before I say good night, I would like to leave everyone with one of my favorite quotes from The Secret. "Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life's coming attractions." - Albert Einstein
